For once, not me

I admit I've been slack on the sorting out the domain transfer business, but basically an ex-work colleague (yes YOU Will) was hosting my mail services, and I had fetchmail picking up via POP3.

Unfortunately, he's done something (haven't found out yet, haven't been able to get in contact with him) and the server simply closes the connection everytime I connect on port 110 now, so I can't get a hold of my mail that's piling up on his server.... Bastard.

I'm in the middle of trying to get the MX record re-pointed to my machine, and in fact get a hold of the philtanner.com domain so that I can do it all myself in the future at the minute, however, not going as smoothly as I would've hoped.

Due to damnable server issues, I'm currently not receiving any emails with a "philtanner.com" domain suffix. This applies to me and the rest of the family too.

I'm trying to resolve the issue at the moment, but I have no idea how long it might take, so in the mean time, if you need to get in contact with any of us, replace the "@philtanner.com" with "@p4tg.com" which we are receiving without any issues.

Fortunately, the web services don't (currently) appear to be affected by this problem.

Argh.

Scum of the Earth. Lowest of the low. The bottom feeders of the bottom feeding world.

I hate them.

They've REALLY got my goat recently.

Can you tell?

So, changes have been made (yet again) to the registration proceedure.

The next thing I'm planning on doing is removing all users who have 0 posts. That's 0 existing posts, so if you've posted a spam, and are expecting to survive this purge... Don't.

Said purge should happen next weekend (16th/17th September). I'll blat out a global email to similar effect in a minute - this is just confirmation, and fore-warning to those of you reading the RSS feed
I'm almost certainly gonna be moving the server this weekend, along with the router and all the rest of the gubbins that actually makes PhilTanner.com work.

THat unfortunately means that the forums and everything else will be unavailable, and that it won't be possible for us to get out onto the internet for the hour or so that it'll take.

If you find that you can't access the site at some point (I really don't know when I'll get time to do it) check back in a bit, and we should be back online

Ok, so I've spent a little bit of time re-skinning the forum so that it fits into the rest of my site slightly more snugly.

To avoid confusion, I've left your currently chosen theme's in place, rather than reset you all, but you can easily choose to use the new theme by following the "Profile" link (which is probably up there ^^ somewhere), scrolling down until you see the "Board Style:" section, and changing the option to "PhilTanner". Click Submit, and you're done

I've also dumped my old user authentification system, and I'm in the process of tying the old auth processes into one central system, which will include this forum. This means you'll have one username and password for my site, which will give you access to all the different areas nice & easily. Won't that be nice?

The majority of these tie-in's are complete, with only the Wishlist functionality needing to be "fixed" - this will be my next project

LOL

Well, it's kinda long winded... And you'll laugh at this I've switched servers, so I switched from running my forum on Postgres to MySQL, as most of the add-ons and pre-built codes for PHP seem to be configured for MySQL - and TBH, I kinda prefer it Anyways, I spent a while trying to export / import the db's and did some trial runs & thngs, and I went through MySQL the other day to tidy up the extraneous data...

There was a table called "tmp" with 0 tables on it... So I thought "Hmmm, must've been a test run" and dropped it. Immediately CF dropped it's load It appears as if the MySQL Java connecttor that CF uses requires this DB to exist to use as a temporary table. Most annoying. Fancy calling a system critical DB "tmp"

Anyway, since that point I've been having sporadic problems with CF connecting to the MySQL DB this php code uses for the forum, to the point where it times out the DB, which then affected PHP accessing the DB, so in the end I thought "sod it", i'll take it down until I have time to fix it all... Which was tonight

Turned out the box needed a reboot anyways, and in the course of the reboot the machine hung at the BIOS memcheck... kinda lucky I decided to buy it some new RAM today anyway really But it's all running again for the moment. *fingers crossed*

Nice avatar BTW
Did you break it, or did the code you wrote disintegrate somehow? Do ColdFusion tags rot or something?
Will you fix the latest posts on mud.philtanner.com too?
There's a couple of areas of my main site (that require login access) that aren't set up yet - mainly because I want to re-write the login system so that there's just one username / password system for the whole lot... And that requires some serious redesign and rethink... Which i don't currently have time for, so I'll have to come back to it. Scream if you're missing something you want.

Oh, and the RSS is missing too. I'll see if I can work out WTF is wrong with it when I'm sure the rest of the server is working as expected...
